You don't have to go too far to land at one of the best bed & breakfast locations in the US. The Wickwood Inn in Saugatuck made USA Today's 'Best Of' list.

The inn landed at #5 on the publication's Top 10 list and was the only Michigan establishment to make the cut. Rankings are determined by the publication's readers across the country who cast votes in the category. Saugatuck is located on the shore of Lake Michigan, about 40 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.

What Makes a Good Bed & Breakfast?

Typically, bed & breakfast hosts are more hands-on or personable and usually live on-site or nearby. Bed & breakfasts are regulated by state and local lodging laws whereas short-term rental property giant Airbnb typically acts as a broker to rent rooms or homes. Oftentimes bed & breakfast hosts provide full breakfasts for their guests while Airbnb properties usually just feature access to kitchen facilities.

How Does Wickwood Inn Make the Cut?

USA Today praised the Wickwood Inn for its elegant, laid-back accommodations, saying it "offers a serene waterside setting in Michigan - without having to make the jaunt to the Upper Peninsula."

The inn also got a nod for its complimentary homemade breakfasts and locally sourced charcuterie offerings.

The 11-room inn accommodates guests who are looking for either cozy rooms or luxurious estate suites. Rooms typically start at about $350 per night, according to the Wickwood Inn's website. Definitely pricy, but to make this national list they've got to be doing something right.

The 'Floating' House on Lake Fenton

This 4,700-square-foot home is surrounded by wetlands.

And although this home has a lot to offer, we're particularly impressed with the main bathroom. A standard toilet side by side with a bidet is a win, any day of the week.
