Gas Station Clerk Botches Lottery Sale, Michigan Man Ends Up a Winner
When you purchase a $30 instant lottery ticket, you expect to get a $30 ticket, right?
It’s a reasonable expectation and one that TikToker Justin had when he stopped at a Mobil gas station in Auburn Hills.
In the video below, Justin says he got “ripped off” when he purchased a Michigan Lottery ticket, but his mood changed when he got an unexpected surprise.
Justin explains that he asked the clerk for a $30 ticket, paid $30, and then realized once he got to work that the Mobil clerk had only handed him a $20 scratch-off.
Was It an Honest Mistake or Did Justin Get Intentionally Ripped Off?
The man admits he may bear some of the responsibility in the situation. He notes that there was a language barrier when he spoke to the clerk and adds that he didn’t double-check the ticket until he arrived at work.
“I get to work. I’m going to scratch him off. And I look at the ticket, and it’s a $20 f—— ticket. It’s not a $30 ticket,” he recalls.
“I probably wouldn’t have bought it if you would have told me it was a $20 one,” he says. “And it’s not the money. I don’t care about the $10. It’s the principle of the thing.”
He Got Ripped Off — and He Got Lucky
Justin goes on to say that while he was initially upset about getting the wrong ticket, he scratched it off anyway. Much to his surprise, it turned out to be a $100 winner.
While that’s not a life-changing amount, Justin was happy to come out ahead despite the mix-up.
“You ripped me off, but it turned out to be lucky,” he says.
