You might not be rubbing elbows with these folks at your next event, but there are three Michiganders who are considered super rich, landing in Forbes' annual list of the 500 wealthiest people in the US.

It probably comes as no surprise that Daniel Gilbert is the wealthiest person in Michigan once again, landing at #73 on Forbes' annual ranking of the richest people in America. Gilbert is estimated to be worth $26.2 billion, up from last year when his nest egg was valued at $18 billion.

Who is Dan Gilbert?

Dan Gilbert cofounded Rock Financial in 1985, along with Ron Berman, Lindsay Gross and Gilbert's younger brother Gary Gilbert. You may have also heard Rock Financial advertised as Rocket Mortgage.

Rock Financial was purchased in 2000 by software maker Intuit and rebranded as Quicken Loans. Two years later, Gilbert and a group of private investors repurchased Quicken loans. The company went public as Rocket Companies in 2020 and Dan Gilbert remains the majority stockholder.

Dan Gilbert is also the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, which he purchased 2005 for $375 million. He also owns the Cleveland Monsters, an American Hockey League team affiliated with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.

Who Are Michigan's Other Forbes 500 Billionaires?

Patch Michigan pored through the data and found two other Michiganders on the publication's annual list of rich muckety mucks.

Mat Ishbia is another highly regarded mortgage lender in Michigan, estimated to be worth $9.9 billion. Isbia's fortune puts him at #228 on Forbes' list.

Rounding out the Top 3 is Ronda Stryker. Stryker is the granddaughter of Homer Stryker, founder of the Stryker Corporation. The global medical equipment supplier is a world leader in medical technology equipment.
