Social Security Quirk: Some Michigan Residents Get Paid Twice in August
Some Michigan residents may notice two Social Security deposits hitting their accounts in August — but it’s not an error.
Who Will See Two Payments?
The unusual payment schedule applies to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, not standard Social Security retirement or disability benefits. The reason? Because September 1 falls on Labor Day this year, the Social Security Administration is issuing September’s SSI checks a few days early, on Friday, August 29.
That means SSI beneficiaries will see their regular August payment on August 1 and the advance September payment before the month ends.
Why the Double Deposit Happens
While it may look like a bonus, this is just a calendar adjustment. No SSI payments will be sent in September. Regular Social Security retirement and disability beneficiaries will see no change in their payment schedule.
