A Michigan doctor is being investigated for possibly reusing medical equipment in his West Michigan office. A formal complaint alleges Dr. Roger D. Beyer instructed members of his staff to reuse anorectal manometers on multiple patients.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have instructed patients of Dr. Beyer to discuss the risk of Hepatitis and HIV with their primary care physician and to be tested if they've had anorectal manometry services performed in Dr. Beyer's office.
According to WZZM-TV, Anorectal manometry is a test performed to evaluate patients with constipation or incontinence. During the test, a small, flexible tube about the size of a thermometer with a balloon at the end is inserted into the rectum. And these are the supplies the staff is allegedly reusing. On MULTIPLE patients.
Beyer is reported to own Urological Solutions of Michigan and Women's Health Care Specialists in Kalamazoo.
