One Michigan Dad did a little Field of Dreams building in the form of a ice rink for his sons, and it's incredible.

Lance Antrobius, of Livonia, has turned his backyard into a hockey oasis for his sons and the entire neighborhood. The backyard ice rink is 40 feet across and 80 feet long, and comes  complete with side boards, a warming tent, metal nets, and a scoreboard. It even has flood & bistro lights that can actually be seen from a block away.

Antrobius told WXYZ that he envisioned the backyard rink when he and his wife originally bought the house. “I saw the big yard and I saw the big flat spot and I kind of started dreaming,” said Lance.

Antrobius started off small and has  has gradually upgraded the rink over the years.  He has converted the garage into a pseudo locker room, where friends and neighbors  can grab a pair of skates or even a hockey stick if they need one.

Getting the rink ready for the season takes time. Antrobius starts putting the rink up every year around October. Things are usually good to go within a few months with the ice ready for the  first skate around New Year’s Day. With on ongoing pandemic the rink has been a welcome outlet for the family and especially Lance's 9 year old son, Dylan.

“It’s incredible, it gives us something to get our mind off of stuff,” said Lance. “I like seeing him enjoy it, the other people enjoy it, that’s what I get out of it, I guess. I mean I do get out there, too.”
