Michigan College Professor Gets a Shot at a Car on ‘The Price is Right’
A West Michigan college professor didn't win a car but she does have a lifelong memory to enjoy after appearing recently on 'The Price is Right.'
Dr. Luchara Wallace is director of Western Michigan University's Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnic Relations in Kalamazoo. She was lucky enough to be told to "Come on down!" and be a contestant on the show Wednesday (11/15).
In addition to getting the opportunity to meet Drew Carey on the stage of the iconic TV gameshow, Dr. Wallace got to spin the big wheel.
West Michigan Professor Wins a Telescope on TPiR
Dr. Wallace bid $650 on a telescope after joining other contestants on the Price is Right stage.
(If you were a Price is Right fan and watched it when you stayed home from school as a kid, you know how this works.)
The actual retail price of the telescope was $680, so Wallace's bid was the closest one (without going over!) and that took her to the next phase of the show.
On Stage With Drew Carey
As soon as Carey learned Wallace was from Kalamazoo, he referenced the 1942 Glenn Miller song "(I Got a Gal in) Kalamazoo.'
Wallace then got to play the show's iconic 'That's Too Much' game. She then had to guess which of the prices shown was too much, in order to win a 2024 Chevrolet Trax.
Unfortunately, Wallace picked the wrong amount, bypassing the correct 'That's Too Much' price tag of $24,605.
Spinning the Big Wheel
Later in the show, Dr. Wallace got a shot at spinning the big wheel, attempting to make it into the shows 'Showcase Showdown.' Unfortunately, her combined spins put her over $1. But she did get a chance to give a shoutout to West Michigan.
"Hi to my family back in Kalamazoo and all of Western Michigan University – go Broncos!" she said before spinning the wheel.
