Best New Brewery is in a Tiny Michigan Town You May Have Never Heard of
Each year, USA Today takes on the task (and what a task it must be!) of finding the best breweries in the US, and this year a beer joint in a tiny Michigan town you've probably never heard of takes home the 'Best New Brewery' trophy.
Beer Experts Pick Their Favorite New Breweries
USA Today asked their panel of beer experts to name their favorite new breweries in the US. A 'new' brewery is defined as one that has opened in the last three years, so the nominations were open to any craft brewer that has set up shop since the beginning of 2021.
After the publication's experts picked their faves, readers chimed in with their votes.
What is the #1 New Brewery in the United States?
After the votes were tallied a new shop in the tiny town of Union Pier, Michigan was declared the winner. Union Pier is an incorporated community in Berrien County, just north of the Indiana state line. About 600 people call Union Pier their home.
Seedz Brewery in Union Pier was chosen as the country's favorite new brewery.
USA Today praised Seedz for using locally sourced hops and malt, and for its slow pours.
"Midwest breweries tend to get overshadowed by all the hop-centric Pacific Northwest pubs or either of the coasts when it comes to craft bars, but Seedz, a small-batch brewery in Union Pier is making its mark and bringing visitors to this sleepy town of just 600 inhabitants. They locally source all their hops and malt, and they specialize in slow pours, taking 5-7 minutes to pour the perfect pint. Czech- and German-styled lagers are at the forefront here."
