Just days before the start of a new school year, a Troy Middle School Assistant Principal has been arrested for breaking into a student's home.

Amy Buchanan, who was about to begin her 10th year at Smith Middle School was caught on video looking through drawers and a purse in the home on Friday (8/24). She stole $40 in cash from the home, and authorities tell WDIV the woman was looking for prescription drugs. Buchanan reportedly drove a student to the home earlier in the day.

Buchanan was charged with second degree home invasion Saturday morning. She has been placed on administrative leave with the school district.
