Michigan AG Dana Nessel Advises Caution Shopping Online
Michigan Attorney General, Dana Nessel is doing whatever she can to help people be safe while shopping online this Christmas season.
When I say anything that includes dressing up in an ugly Christmas sweater, and doing a mock interview with a very Grinch-like reporter. The video is actually a really clever play on the news network coverage that Nessel has been receiving lately. While the video is a little tongue and cheek, the message is simple and serious.

Be careful while Christmas shopping online this year!
Too often people are taken advantage of around the holidays because they have let their guard down. The holiday season is an easy time for scammers to pull one over on shoppers looking for the "hard to find present" or last minute shoppers. Nessel lays out a few pretty simple steps to keep yourself safe in the video above.
- Protect your personal information.
- Do your research. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- Only shop on secure websites.
- Beware of tricks to get you to spend more money than you intended
Nessel also brings up the way that the pandemic gives scammers an added advantage this season. More people will be shopping online to avoid crowds this season, and that just increases the odds for scammers.
There is no way to make sure that you are 100% safe from online scams, but a little vigilance goes a long way. If you are even the least bit suspicious, then trust your instinct and take the time to do a little extra research. Shopping online to keep yourself healthy is a great idea, just make sure you're keeping your money safe too.
