Matthew Stafford’s “Thank You, Detroit” Video Has All The Feels
Matt Stafford put out an emotional farewell video to say thank you to Detroit, and Lions fans, and it will give you all the feels.
Stafford has been the face of the Lions since 2009, and holds pretty much every passing record the Lions have. Despite the incredible stats and commitment to the team, Stafford and the Lions agreed that trading him away would be best for both sides. The news that Stafford would be traded was received with mixed emotions from Lions fans, but you can tell from the video that Stafford truly loves Detroit.
I'm going to get on my soapbox here for a moment.
I have gotten so sick of the Stafford haters in Michigan over the last 9 years. The Lions drafted Stafford first in 2009, and he has given the Lions everything he has since day one. The numbers are there to prove that he could easily be an elite quarterback in the NFL. Instead of being mad at the organization for not putting tools around Stafford, fans turn on one of the few players that has been truly dedicated to Detroit.
Don't believe me? Watch this video of Stafford leading the Lions to a comeback win after getting injured on the field.
That video sums up the last 12 years for Matt Stafford in Detroit.
I haven't even gotten into all of the charitable work that Matt and his wife Kelly have done in Detroit!
I don't want to make this a negative article where I just bash the Stafford haters out there, so I'll end on a positive note. Matt Stafford is a phenomenal quarterback, but he is an even better person. I hate to think that his full potential was wasted in Detroit on the field, but his heart has touched the city in ways that football can't begin to.
I hope that Matt has nothing but success with the Rams, and I honestly think they could be a Super Bowl team this year.
Thank you Matt, for everything.
