Saved from Death, Then Scolded: Michigan Mom Rescues Drowning Boy, Gets Cussed Out
A Michigan mom who pulled a drowning boy from the water says she was met with swearing instead of thanks from the child’s mother.
The Day at the Beach
Ashley, known on TikTok as @healthybutno, proved that no good deed goes unpunished. A veteran lifeguard with nearly 20 years of experience, she says she rescued a boy from imminent drowning on a Michigan beach while holding her own toddler. Instead of gratitude, the boy’s mother unleashed a barrage of obscenities, shouting, “You should not be touching my son!”
The Drowning Rescue
Ashley tells Nerd Stash she was enjoying a day at a Michigan beach with her family when she noticed a troubling sight. The boy’s mother was sitting on the sand, absorbed in a book, while her children played in the water, tossing a ball back and forth. As the kids moved farther out, Ashley’s lifeguard instincts kicked in and she “made a mental note to keep track of the kids in the water.”
Then she noticed something alarming. One of the boys swam into deeper water, beyond the swimming area, and soon got into trouble. Ashley tried to call out to the boy’s mother on the beach but couldn’t get her attention.
With no lifeguard on duty, Ashley immediately handed her 1-year-old baby to her husband and sprinted toward the boy. Without hesitation, she grabbed him from the water and carried him safely back to shore.
The Unexpected Reaction
The boy’s mother didn’t realize her son had nearly drowned when Ashley approached with the child. Instead of thanking her for the heroic act, the mother yelled and cursed at Ashley — only relenting once her son confirmed what had happened.
Ashley’s Warning to Parents
Ashley says the experience was a harsh reminder that sometimes, even when you do the right thing, people may not see it that way at first. She’s glad the story has a happy ending and wants to remind parents just how dangerous water can be.
“Nothing about the water is safe,” she says. “Pay attention to your damn kids.”
@healthybutno I have never gotten this response after saving someone before. But at least she said sorry. #storytime #rescue #drowning ♬ original sound - Ashley Cast
