Authorities in Northwest Michigan have recovered a small alligator after apprehending a speeding driver on US-10.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office says one of their officers was stationed along US-10 Saturday night (6/11) when he spotted a speeding driver. The officer began pursuit but the driver refused to stop, leading the officer on a brief chase. The driver eventually came to a standstill when he was caught between a couple of trees in Webber Township just south of Traverse City.

Driver Cooperates, Alligator Tries to Escape

At that point, police were able to arrest the Oak Park man who had been driving. Several charges are pending against the man, as he has outstanding warrants from outside the area.

Along for the ride was a small alligator whose name is Karen. Karen was not as cooperative as her driver and attempted to elude the officer. After a brief struggle, the alligator was eventually caught, according to Fox 17.

Check out the brief video below as the Lake County Sheriff's deputy and an officer from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources attempt to apprehend the critter.

 Karen Eventually Acquiesses

The police department jokingly had this to say about the alligator:

“The passenger, 'Karen” the Alligator,' attempted to flee the scene, but was taken into custody after a short scuffle. Karen is not facing any charges at this time. We believe she was an unwilling participant during the incident, nor do we believe she was ever in control of the vehicle.”
