When Can Michigan Expect Its First Snowball to the Face From Winter?

It's not something Michiganders want to hear but winter will be here before you know it.

Before we come face to face with winter's wrath, we're supposed to ease into those colder temps in the fall. However, some reports are already claiming that Michigan will see snow in October. If that's the case, we could be dealing with snow in two months.

If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that Michigan's weather is nearly impossible to predict. Even though it seems impossible, Farmers' Almanac takes a crack at it every year.

Every August Farmers' Almanac releases their winter predictions. Those predictions also include what we can expect in the fall.

What Can Michigan Expect This Fall?

According to Farmers' Almanac, cooler and drier weather should take hold during the fall, followed by a spell of cold and unsettled conditions in November and December.

Honestly, I put very little faith in the Farmers' Almanac predictions because they're always so vague and predictable.

They have one report that says it's going to be "cool and dry" and another that claims we'll have "above average" temperatures.

Will Michigan See Snow in October?

According to AccuWeather, there's a good chance that we'll see snow in October for most of the state.

Meteorologist Paul Pastelok:

I think we could start to see some flurries in the higher elevations as we get into very late September and October, but lower elevations may wait until later October or November. It is not rare for flurries to fall in these areas in October, but it is about two weeks ahead of the historical average for the first snowflakes of the season.

 

Should Michiganders Be Freaking Out?

No, if we see any snow at all in October, it'll be just flurries. Stay calm, there's no reason to freak out...yet

Again, it is Michigan so anything is possible.
