Top 5 Cities in Michigan for UFO Sightings

If you’ve ever stared up at the Michigan sky and thought, “That definitely wasn’t a plane,” trust me, you’re not alone. Michigan has seen a lot of UFO activity over the years, some explainable, some... not so much.

It's harder to be a believer in 2025 when drones are more common in the sky than ever before. People used to flip out when they saw something unusual in the sky, but now most people just shrug and say, “Probably a drone.”

Not everything in the sky has an easy explanation, and the true believers (myself included) know the truth is still out there…even if it’s hiding behind a swarm of Elon's Starlink satellites.

Thanks to data from the National UFO Reporting Center (yep, it’s a real thing), we now know which cities in Michigan are the biggest hot spots for sightings.

These five Michigan cities have had the most reported sightings since 1995:

Grand Rapids – 125 sightings
The west side of the state has its share of sightings, especially out in the quieter, darker spots.

Detroit – 103 sightings
There’s no shortage of weird stuff in Detroit, and that includes what’s flying around up in the sky. Light pollution or not, people are spotting some strange things over the Motor City all the time.

Lansing – 65 sightings
Even the capital isn’t safe from unexplained visitors. Maybe they’re keeping tabs on our lawmakers? Then again, some say our lawmakers are aliens.

Flint – 61 sightings
We’re not surprised to see Flint on the list. People around here don’t miss much, and when something weird shows up in the sky, you can bet someone’s calling it in. We know what we saw.

Ann Arbor – 58 sightings
With all the curious minds (and, let’s be honest, all the mushrooms floating around), it’s no surprise Ann Arbor made the list. Whether it’s something in the sky or something in the tea, residents here are definitely seeing things.

I’ve been staring up at Michigan’s skies my whole life, and still no close encounters… yet. One of these days, I’m gonna have an incredible story to tell. Until then, we just gotta keep looking up.
