If you're planning to take the family to one of Michigan's favorite state parks this fall, you'd better check ahead to make sure it's even open. One popular state park officially closed its gates to visitors today, which may leave some visitors disappointed.
While Michigan is home to 103 state parks, many people have a favorite they visit often for a wide range of recreational activities, from hiking and camping to fishing—or simply to enjoy the state's beautiful fall colors.
One of Michigan's most popular state parks, known for its beaches, camping, dunes, hiking trails, fall colors, iconic landmarks, and more, is now closed. however, there is some news, it's not closed for good.
Ludington State Park is officially closed as of today (September 3rd) and will remain closed for nearly a year. This will be a huge disappointment for the visitors who were unaware of the closure. that's one of the reasons we're trying to help spread the word.
How Much of Ludington State Park is Closed?
According to Manistee News, the closure includes the park’s beaches, dunes, wetlands, marshes, 21 miles of marked trails, Big Sable Point Lighthouse, and three campgrounds.
Why is Ludington State Park closed?
Usually, when one of Michigan's state parks closes for any amount of time, it’s due to construction or some kind of renovation. Well, that’s exactly what will happen over the next 10 months at Ludington State Park.
The closure is due to planned improvements, which include paving the main road, expanding the parking areas, and upgrading the entrance. The project also coincides with ongoing construction in the park to update one of the campground’s lift stations. The east loop of the Cedar Campground will be closed through April 19, 2024.
Ludington State Park will be closed from Sept. 3, 2024, through July 1, 2025.
