Big Construction Changes Coming to I-69 in Genesee County Next Week

If you drive westbound I-69 through Genesee County, you're going to notice a pretty big change. Traffic is about to shift, some ramps are closing, and if you normally get off at Miller Road, you're going to have to change up your route for a while. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

What's Going On With Westbound I-69?

Starting Monday, Aug. 3, westbound traffic will be moved over to the eastbound side of the freeway while crews continue bridge work.

That means if you're heading west, you'll actually be driving on the eastbound side of I-69 through the construction zone. Don't be surprised if it throws you off the first time you drive through there. That's just how things are going to be while crews work on the bridges.

Which I-69 Ramps Are Closing?

If you normally get on or off westbound I-69 at Miller Road, you'll need to find another way around. Both ramps are closing during this phase of the project.

MDOT says drivers should follow the posted detours using Bristol, Miller, and Morrish roads.

Why Is MDOT Working on I-69?

This is all part of a $33.3 million project to repair and improve 17 bridges along I-69 in Genesee and Shiawassee counties.

This phase is expected to wrap up in November, but the overall project will continue until October 2027.
