Four Genesee County Railroad Crossings Are Officially on the Fix List
Let’s be honest. Some of the railroad crossings in Genesee County are brutal. So bad that plenty of people will add extra time to their drive just to avoid them.
The Michigan Department of Transportation just handed out funding for railroad crossing upgrades across the state, and four of those projects are right here in Genesee County.
Railroad Crossing Repairs Coming to Genesee County
According to MLive, these upgrades fall under MDOT’s Local Grade Crossing Surface Program. That’s the one focused on fixing the actual surface you drive over. Not fancy stuff. Just making crossings smoother, safer, and less punishing on your suspension.
Here’s where the work is happening.
Under the Genesee County Road Commission
• Carpenter Road between I-475 and Dort Highway
• Irish Road between Court Street and Davison Road
Under the City of Flint
• Lippincott Boulevard
• Longway Boulevard
When will Railroad Crossing Construction Start in Genesee County?
This work is scheduled for 2026. Don't worry, it's not going to happen right away. No surprise orange barrels next week. Just a heads-up that these crossings are officially on the schedule.
MDOT is covering 60 percent of the cost, with the railroads paying the remaining 40 percent and handling the actual repairs.
Public service announcement. Don’t complain for years that the crossings are terrible, then lose your mind on Facebook when construction finally starts.
