Body Cameras No Longer Allowed Inside Genesee County Jail…Why?
A lot of people are talking about this right now, and the timing is getting most of the attention.
According to ABC 12, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson is addressing concerns after a memo about body cameras inside the jail went out the same day a female inmate died in custody.
That memo basically bans the use of body cameras inside the jail.

Why Body Cameras Are Now Banned Inside the Genesee County Jail
Swanson says the memo had nothing to do with the death.
According to him, it came after an incident where personal inmate information ended up being recorded and possibly exposed…which is obviously something they don’t want happening.
So now, body cams are banned inside the jail to protect that kind of sensitive info from getting out. And it’s not like Genesee County is the only one doing this. Swanson says places like Oakland, Gladwin, and Alpena already follow similar rules.
Body Camera Ban Timing Raises Questions in Genesee County
Even if it is just a coincidence, some people aren’t buying the timing.
The memo went out the same day inmate Angie Mitchell died, and yeah…that’s not sitting right with some people, especially those who’ve had their own experiences with the jail.
Swanson says the two are not connected and that there are still surveillance cameras inside recording everything.

The investigation is ongoing, and all footage will be reviewed.
When things line up like that, people are going to question it. And they should…even if it does end up being just a coincidence.
