I pretty much start every morning the same way, making breakfast before work with FOX 2 Detroit on in the background. So yeah, I feel this one a bit.

Erica Francis announced Wednesday that she’s leaving FOX 2 after a little more than four years. Her final day on the air in Detroit will be October 2.

Francis said it wasn’t an easy announcement to make. She thanked viewers for welcoming her into their mornings, trusting her with their stories and allowing her to be part of some pretty important moments in their lives.

The good news is that Francis isn’t leaving TV. She’s just trading Michigan winters for the sunshine in Tampa, Florida, where she’ll be a morning anchor at WFLA News Channel 8. Honestly, you can’t blame her for taking a gig down south.

She’s obviously pretty excited about what’s next, but said leaving Michigan and the people who’ve welcomed her into their homes won’t be easy.

If you watch FOX 2 in the morning, you’ve probably gotten pretty used to seeing Francis as part of the crew.

Erica Francis Has Deep Michigan Roots

Erica Francis is a Michigan girl through and through. She grew up in Holland, went to Central Michigan University, and started her career at FOX 17 in Grand Rapids.

After spending some time in Nashville, she returned home to FOX 2, the same station where she had interned roughly a decade earlier. Pretty cool how that all came full circle.

It’s been a rough stretch for regular FOX 2 morning viewers. Just last month, Kellie Rowe announced she was leaving the station after 10 years to focus on her mental health and slow things down. Now, another familiar face is on the way out.
