A brutal, terrifying scene unfolded Wednesday morning at a Michigan mobile home park, where a 3-year-old girl was mauled by a neighbor’s dog.

According to WXYZ, the little girl had wandered off while her mom was outside doing some yard work. At some point, the little girl ended up near a neighbor’s dog, and that’s when everything went sideways.

There are very few details about what exactly happened, but apparently Someone found the injured girl and brought her back to her mother, who didn’t wait for an ambulance. She immediately rushed her daughter to the hospital.

The girl suffered serious injuries, including bite wounds to her face. Thankfully, while the injuries are severe, they aren’t believed to be life-threatening. Still, just an absolutely heartbreaking situation all around.

As you can imagine, when a story like this hits social media, people immediately start pointing the blame without really having the facts in front of them.

Some Facebook users were quick to point the blame at the parents instead of the dog.

One person commented on WXYZ Detroit’s page:

In this situation, parents didn't know a child got out. That's on the parents. Why blame a dog for parents not parenting? I'm a mom—even I know my 4-year-old can open our front door, so we have a safety lock for measures.
Dog’s not at fault, neither is the owner. The parents need to freaking parent.

Another wrote:

Praying for child and dog. Praying dog was in its own yard and won't have to be put down for thinking it was protecting its home.
Praying child recovers mentally and physically fast, and the parents pay better attention to their children and realize this is just one of the many things that can happen when you let your baby wander off unsupervised!

It’s a terrible situation all the way around, and honestly, there’s no easy answer. A little girl is hurt, a dog’s future is uncertain, and everyone is pointing fingers. Here’s hoping the little girl heals quickly.
