Michigan is the Great Lakes State. Michigan claims 4 of the 5 Great Lakes. No other state can claim more than 2. So it should be surprising to learn that in a survey of the Best Cities on the Great Lakes, Michigan goes 0-5.

The survey was conducted on the Geography subreddit of Reddit with users being asked which was the best city on each Great Lake.
How Reddit Graded the Best Cities on the Great Lakes
Here are the top results:
- Lake Superior: Duluth
- Lake Michigan: Chicago
- Lake Erie: Buffalo
- Lakes Huron and St Clair: Tobermory, Ontario
- Lake Ontario: Toronto
- Overall: Chicago
The only Michigan locations to make the medal stand were a 2nd place for Marquette as best city on Lake Superior and Traverse City nabbed 3rd best city on Lake Michigan.

Other than that, it was a total Michigan shutout.
Who could have been in contention?
Michigan has so many beach towns along Lake Michigan: New Buffalo, St Joe, South Haven, Holland, Grand Haven and Muskegon. Grand Rapids even merited some votes despite being inland.

Detroit isn't quite on a Great Lake so failed to get love for either Lake Erie or Lake Huron contention.
Same for the smaller Michigan locations on those lakes, Monroe on Erie and cities like Alpena, Tawas and Oscoda on Huron.
