Jerry Fenton, an Iowa motel owner, paid $700 to cover overdue lunch balances at his former elementary school.

When students at Grimes Elementary School in Burlington, Iowa are unable to pay for their school lunches, their overdue bill goes on a tab, and a note is sent home to parents. When Fenton found out that so many parents were struggling to pay for their kids' lunches, he decided to pay off the balance - $700, which also covers future overdue balances.

Fenton says that his mortgage is paid off and he has a little bit of money in the bank, and that this is his way of giving back.

File this one under, "He didn't have to, but he did." Lovely story.
