Huntington Bank to Close 30+ Branches Including Nine in Michigan
Huntington Bank announced on Friday (10/20) that it plans to close more than 30 branches in early 2024, including nine here in Michigan.
The blow was delivered along with Huntington's third-quarter earnings report, which was released Friday morning. Shuttering 34 of its branches means reducing the bank's footprint by about 3%, according to Cleveland.com. Huntington's headquarters are located in Columbus, Ohio.
Closures Will Lead to Employee Shuffle
Kris Dahl is a spokesperson for Huntington Bank. Dahl indicates that Huntington will make an effort to move displaced employees to similar roles at other branches.
“We regularly review our distribution network (in-store and traditional) and make adjustments and improvements to ensure our mix of branches, ATMs and online and mobile banking continue to meet our customers’ evolving needs,” Dahl said. “We make every effort to place colleagues in comparable roles so they can continue to be a part of Huntington, serving the communities they know.”
30+ Branches in Seven States Set to Close
Michigan and Minnesota are the states being hit the hardest, each with nine branches slated to close next year.
Seven Huntington Bank locations in Ohio and a handful of locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Illinois, and Wisconsin will be shuttered.
