If you've recently purchased whole or baby-bagged carrots, check the product info as a massive recall has been issued for several states including Michigan.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website, 39 people have been infected with a strain of E. Coli reported in 18 states. The bacteria has hospitalized 15 people and has been linked to one death.

Organic Whole and Baby Carrots Sold by Grimmway Farms

Grimmway Farms has recalled organic whole and select organic baby carrots due to to potential E. Coli contamination.

The Federal Drug Administration has not yet specified which states the carrots were sold in but the CDC has kept track of which states have reported cases of E. Coli linked to the consumption of the carrots.

Those states include Arkansas, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virgina, Washington, and Wyoming. +

Baby Carrots Sold at Major Michigan Retailers

The following stores have sold carrots linked to the E. Coli contamination. This list may expand as more cases are potentially reported. Not all stores listed have locations in Michigan.

  • Wegmans
  • Target
  • Publix
  • 365 Whole Foods Market
  • Kroger
  • Albertsons
  • Food Lion

What Carrots Have Been Recalled?

The following carrots were shipped to distribution centers nationwide, according to Grimmway Farms' website:

  • Organic whole carrots, which do not have a best-if-used-by date printed on the bag, but were available for purchase at retail stores from August 14 through October 23, 2024,
  • Organic baby carrots with best-if-used-by-dates ranging from September 11 through November 12, 2024.
