Our little Google Mini that we have in the kitchen is a cool gadget. Basically, it's Alexa's little brother and does most of the things she does -- set timers and alarms, turn lights on and off, and answer question like "How old is David Muir?" (That's a real-life example of a question we just asked, BTW. Oh, and another BTW, he's 44.)

And looking over that first paragraph, I just realized that I referred to Alexa as a 'she' rather than an 'it'. It's almost like she's part of the family, except she always follows my instructions without questioning me.

Now it looks like the Google Assistant is getting a new skill. And this is the part that you'll either find to be cool as hell, or scary as hell!

Google Assistant will soon be able to make phone calls and send email on your behalf.

Check out the video from the Google I/O 2018 conference yesterday. The 'Assistant' makes a hair appointment for the owner -- and interacts with the woman on the other end of the phone just like a human!

The woman at the salon had no idea!

So what do you think? Personally, I can't wait. I love technology and will gladly embrace it. But it's gonna freak some people out!
