Shoppers in Flint Township were sent home about 6:45 pm Monday evening (4/21) when Genesee Valley Center unexpectedly closed its doors.

Store tenants were informed that the mall was being closed due to a sudden water main break at the facility. Shoppers and store managers were not given an estimate as to when repairs could be completed, and when the mall could reopen for business.

Genesee Valley Center Plagued by Mechanical Problems

This is not the first time shoppers have been turned away from the mall in Flint Township because of infrastructure problems.

The nearly 55-year-old mall suddenly closed during the busy Christmas shopping season in December 2022, due to a water main break.

Once again, the shopping center was forced to close its doors in February 2024, due to a water main break.

When Will Genesee Valley Center Reopen?

A spokesman from the mall's mechanical department couldn't name an exact time when repairs would be complete, but said they hoped to have the repairs completed sometime today (4/22). Mall tenants would be able to resume normal operations once the repairs are complete.

Macy's at Genesee Valley Center was permanently closed earlier this year.

Retail Adventures With Alex shared a quick video documenting the struggles faced by the underperforming mall below.
