If you went to school in the 80s or 90s, we had fire drills and tornado drills. Since the epidemic of school shootings began now students also go through active shooter and lockdown drills. But after the events of Sunday morning in Grand Blanc Township, a lot of religious leaders are left with questions.
Questions Rise for Faith Leaders After Grand Blanc Attack
What do I do to protect my faith-based community? What steps do I have in place? What do I need to know? How can you help? The Genesee County Sheriff's Department has been inundated with these questions since the deadly attack at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Grand Blanc Township on McCandlish Road.

Sheriff’s Office Announces Tactical Briefing Friday
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is hosting a special tactical briefing for all faith-based communities in Genesee County on Friday, October 3, 2025. While it is not open to the public, faith-based organization can register by clicking here. You will then get a response with event and location information.
Open to Mid-Michigan Faith Communities
Many people are asking on the Genesee County Sheriff's Office Facebook page if this briefing is only available for faith-based organization within county limits, and the office responded saying that organizations from neighboring counties like Lapeer, Saginaw, Shiawassee, Tuscola and Livingston Counties are welcome to attend.

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson says is doesn't matter your theology or if you worship at a temple, church or mosque it doesn't matter. Information will presented from several local, county and state agencies from the local tactical team to Michigan State Attorney General Dana Nessel.
