Genesee County Plans Recycle Days for Electronics + Other Hard-to-Recycle Items
If you have a basement full of old electronics and other items that you can't just put in the trash, you're in luck. Genesee County is planning to hold three recycle days so you can get rid of old paint, automotive fluids, and any hazardous waste items you may have taking up space.

We've been waiting for this since before the pandemic began. (Somehow we missed last year's event,) We've been hanging on to a bunch of old cellphones, computers, TiVos, and batteries just waiting for an opportunity to recycle all that stuff responsibly.
What Are the Details?
The Genesee County Recycle Day will be this Saturday, May 14, from 10 am to 2 pm at Carman Ainsworth Middle School. The school is located at 1409 W. Maple Avenue in Flint.
Additional recycle days will be held at the same location on:
- Tuesday, June 21 from 2 to 6 pm,
- Tuesday, July 19 from 2 to 6 pm,
- and Tuesday, August 23 from 2 to 6 pm.
What Can or Cannot be Recycled?
According to the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission, these items can be recycled at the events:
- Aerosols
- Automotive Fluids
- Batteries (household/auto)
- Biomedical Sharps (in rigid/sealed container)
- Corrosives (acids/bases)
- Electronics (all kinds)
- Fire Extinguishers
- Fluorescent Bulbs & Tubes
- Mercury
- Oil Based & Latex Paints/Solvents
- Pesticides & Herbicides
- Prescription Medication
- Propane Cylinders (up to 3o lbs. each)
- Reactives & Oxidizers
- Smoke Detectors
However, the following items will not be accepted:
- 55 Gallon Drums of Waste
- Agricultural Tires & Waste
- Ammunition
- Appliances
- Commercial Tires & Waste
- Compressed Gas Cylinders (other than propane)
- Construction Materials
- Explosives & Fireworks
- Garbage & Yard Waste
- Industrial Tires & Waste
- Paper for Shredding
- Radioactive Materials
- Tires
- Weapons
