Genesee County Clerk John Gleason Arrested on Bribery + Other Charges
Genesee County Clerk John Gleason has been arrested. Reports indicate that Gleason has been charged with witness bribing/intimidating/interfering and willful neglect of duty by a public officer.
Investigation Dates Back to 2020
Authorities tell WJRT-TV that they began investigating Gleason in 2020. The County Clerk allegedly performed a marriage ceremony outside of his jurisdiction, which is deemed illegal under Michigan law. However, authorities have not confirmed that the charges levied against Gleason are related to the illegally performed marriage.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's office brought the case to the attention of Tuscola county Prosecutor Mark Reene who was charged with determining if criminal charges against Gleason were warranted. Charges were filed by Reene's office earlier today.
More on Gleason's Charges Expected Later Today
This is a developing story and a press conference scheduled for later today (4/8) should reveal more details about the charges against Gleason.
