Foster Mom Arrested in Michigan After Crushing 10-Year-Old Boy
An Indiana woman whose weight is reported to be 340 lbs. was arrested in Michigan after she allegedly lay on top of a 10-year-old boy in her care, crushing him to death.
Jennifer Lee Wilson was arrested earlier this month in Berrien County after a license plate camera detected her vehicle in Michigan.
10-Year-Old Boy Crushed by Foster Mom
Police were called to a home in northwest Indiana for a medical emergency in late April of this year. They found 10-year-old Dakota Levi Stevens unresponsive. Investigators say the boy had thrown himself to the ground after pleading with a neighbor to adopt him.
In an attempt to control Stevens' behavior, Wilson - Stevens' foster mother - lay on the boy's midsection while she called his caseworker. Ring video footage shows the woman lying on top of the boy for about five minutes before he stopped moving.
In another video, Wilson can be heard saying, “I was laying on him and he was acting bad.”
Multiple news outlets report that the boy had been placed in Wilson's care about a month before his death.
People reports that Wilson began administering CPR and called 911. The news outlet says Stevens weighed approximately 91 pounds while Wilson's weight is said to be about 340 pounds.
Arrested in Michigan
An arrest warrant for Wilson was issued nearly two months after the boy's death. The 48-year-old woman has been charged with reckless homicide. Wilson was arrested last week when a license plate scanner detected the presence of her vehicle in Berrien County in southwest Michigan.
