Flint Mayor Dayne Walling sat down this morning to discuss the budget and new businesses coming to downtown. The budget for the next fiscal year was approved by City Members on Monday and Walling is pleased with the outcome:

"City Council worked hard. We've got a good balanced budget in place. I'm really proud of the spirit and cooperation that we have at city hall right now. This is very very challenging times right now, but other communities are having a hard time staying on the same page, but we have our leadership in focus."

It's always nice to hear when new businesses plan to open up downtown. The latest include a healthy dollar store and ice cream shop:

"We have new small businesses and these are entrepreneurs. It really shows that downtown is really established and it's not just big projects."

Tina's Sweet Shop is located right next to Cork, near the small post office and it's already open. A new healthy dollar store is also opening on the corner of Beech and First and they hope to be open just in time for Back to the Bricks.

The mayor also said to expect more positive changes coming in the next few months, so look for details soon.
