Huge End of an Era in Battle Creek as Kellogg’s Now Two New Companies
And then there were two. The Michigan-based company known as Kellogg for over 117 years is now two separate companies with two new names.
It was back in March when we told you that the end of an era was in the works. Kellogg had announced that it would be officially splitting into two companies bringing an end to the iconic well-known name of 117 years. One division would be WK Kellogg Co., and the other, Kellanova. On Monday, October 2nd, at 12:01 a.m. the official separation was completed.
The new North American cereal business will be named WK Kellogg Co. The second name will be Kellanova. This division will encompass Kellogg’s snacks along with international cereal and noodles, plant-based foods, and North American frozen breakfast business. This will include brands such as Pringles, Cheez-It, Morningstar Farms, Eggo, Zucaritas, and Coco Pops
"With the completion of the separation, Kellanova has entered a new era with a new name and a new ambition," Steve Cahillane, Kellanova's Chairman and CEO, told CBS News Channel 3. "We are starting from a position of strength that is rooted in a century-old legacy as we embark on a journey to achieve our vision of becoming the world's best-performing snacks-led powerhouse."
Kellogg's has been a staple in the Battle Creek area since it was founded in 1906 by W.K. Kellogg. There was concern that the company would pull the legendary business from the area once the split was made, but executives for the company made assurances that it would still be a fixture in Battle Creek.
In June of 2022 when the official announcement was made that changes were coming, the company announced on its website in a video message from Steve Cahillane, Kellogg Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer that although corporate headquarters would move out of Battle Creek the North American cereal company and plant company will remain headquartered in Michigan.
The snacking company, that will trade under the symbol "K," will have dual campuses in Battle Creek and Chicago with corporate headquarters in Chicago. According to CBS News Channel 3, Battle Creek city leaders are assuring residents that they shouldn't expect to notice any changes in Battle Creek following the separation.
Here's hoping the end of an era is the start of something even bigger and better in Battle Creek.
