Just another safety measure that the university is taking to keep students healthy this fall.

It's called the Eastern Michigan University "Single Room Guarantee," and it's for students who will be living in the dorms on campus this fall. Basically, any student who requests a one-person room will receive it. Likewise, students who want a roommate will still have that option.

So far, they're the only university in Michigan to offer this option for students to social distance from each other.

Now, the cost - typically, single-person rooms cost $2,500 more per year than a shared room. According to the press release, "the annual cost of a single room to $100 per month more than the cost of sharing a double room. That amounts to $800 annually. This credit provides annual savings to those who choose to live in a single room of $1,700 over the typical single room rate."

The school has over 18,000 students who are studying for their undergraduate, graduate, specialist, doctoral and certificate degrees.

I'll just come out and say it - as a parent, I'm literally on pins and noodles to see what school districts are planning for the 2020/2021 school year. Like so many people, I'm a working parent and, with no family living here in Michigan to help, I need to start planning ahead.

It's going to be a tough decision for EVERY school district; they're damned if they do, and damned if they don't. And I support whatever they decide; I'm just impatient.

Good luck to EMU in this new "normal!"
