A Detroit area man is in serious condition after he jumped from an overpass onto the Lodge Freeway in order to escape from someone who was shooting at him.

This is a lot to unpack, and it seems more like the scene from a movie than real life.

Detroit police received calls on Sunday (11/29) afternoon that someone was attempting suicide by jumping off an overpass around 4:30 pm.

However, the incident started with a car chase that ended at a Michigan Left on Seven-Mile Rd. over the Lodge, according to WDIV. A 23-year-old man who was driving a Pontiac Torrent was being chased by someone driving a black Jeep SUV. The victim crashed his car, then jumped out and jumped off the overpass.

Miraculously, the man survived the fall and was still able to run for a bit after he hit the ground. No accidents were caused as a result of the chase or the man's jump.

The whereabouts of the person or persons in the black Jeep Cherokee are unknown. Anyone with information about the occupants of the vehicle or information about the incident is encouraged to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

The southbound side of the Lodge Freeways was temporarily closed as police investigated the incident. A bullet was retrieved from the scene.
