A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen located in Detroit has closed after an employee posted a Facebook Live video on Monday (7/23) depicting deplorable conditions inside the restaurant.

Shakita Shemere's tells WXYZ (first video below) that she started working at the Popeyes location on Gratiot Ave. three weeks ago and immediately began noticing unsanitary conditions including roaches, uncovered food, and dirty dishes that were reused.

The restaurant closed Tuesday as health department officials and the restaurant's owner began to assess the situation.

Her 21-minute Facebook video is below. According to the New York Post, the 20-year-old was fired immediately after posting the video.

The Detroit Health Depart issued the following statement regarding the restaurant's closure.

The Detroit Health Department’s Food Safety Team is currently on site and investigating the Popeye’s location at 14180 Gratiot. The location is temporarily closed and the Popeye’s management is cooperating with the Health Department and following all cleaning protocols.

The Detroit Health Department will continue to work with the Popeye’s location and it will work to make the sure the restaurant is in compliance prior to reopening.

The establishment will remain closed until the matter is resolved.
