As surprising as it may sound, when you’re considered one of the hottest stars in pop music, friends can sometimes be hard to come by. But in Demi Lovato‘s case, she really found out who her friends were when entered a treatment center in late 2010 for “emotional and physical issues.”

“I could count on my hands how many people were there for me,” Lovato says in the February 2012 issue of Seventeen magazine [quotes via Us Weekly]. “The people who were, I didn’t forget it.”

During that time, stars like Kim Kardashian reached out in support, as well as Lovato’s BFF’s Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez. (Lovato in turn recently showed support for Gomez following Sel’s family crisis.) And, like with every best friend, you will have your fair share of fights.

“No matter how many times we fight, we will always be in each others’ lives,” Lovato says of her bond with Cyrus and Gomez. “Miley and I are very strong-headed, so when we fight, it’s brutal and we’re like, ‘We’re never going to be friends again!’ Then two days later, we’re like, ‘I love you and I miss you!’”

When it comes to Gomez, Lovato says she and the singer almost “never” fight. “She’s not a confrontational person at all,” she adds. “Both of them will never leave my life no matter what happens because we’ve been through so much together.”

January 2012 marks a complete year since being in rehab, which has left Lovato feeling “more confident, happy and healthy” than where she was leading up to the life-changing help received. And by the looks of Lovato’s sun-kissed glow (and my we point out adorable freckles!) seems as though she’s staying pretty positive.

“I have so much to look forward to,” notes Lovato. “From little everyday things, like where I’m going to go shopping with my friends, to big things, like heading out on the road [on tour], or even really long-term things, like what my next big project will be.”

Look for Lovato’s complete interview in Seventeen to his stands later this month.
