Thieves who stole eight new Chevrolet and GMC pickups used one to smash into Sovita Credit Union in an attempt to steal from the safe.

Two men have been arrested after using one of the stolen trucks to ram through a wall at the credit union on Calkins Rd. in Flint Township.

The trucks were stolen from a secure overflow lot early Sunday morning. A witness called 911 shortly after the vehicles were taken.

The truck's built-in OnStar system sent notifications that a crash had been detected when the vehicle hit the credit union. OnStar notified the Michigan State Police and then the crash-detection system was used to determine the whereabouts of the other stolen vehicles.

No money was stolen from the credit union. The two men who were arrested face multiple charges, including unlawful driving away and eight counts each of attempted safe cracking.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Michigan State Police.
