Local first responders work hand in hand on a daily basis to protect, serve, and save lives in our community, but put them in a hockey rink together and it's game on.

This Saturday, October 19th, local firefighters and police will strap on the skates for a "friendly" game of hockey all in the name of charity. The puck drops at 4pm at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. All money raised will benefit local charities.

Immediately following the game there will be a free Touch-A-Truck event on the grounds of Dort Federal Event Center that will feature emergency vehicles such as police vehicles, fire trucks, and ambulances. The match-up coincides with First Responder Appreciation Night for the  Flint Firebirds big game against North Bay Battalion.  All police, fire & EMS employees receive a complimentary ticket courtesy of the Flint Firebirds and Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Rico Phillips team Firefighter, Amy Belanger team Police, and Firebirds own Dominic Gutierrez about the rivalry and the big game. As you can see there's some serious smack talk going on.

Tickets start at $12 and include both games and all activities such as the  Touch-A-Truck event. First responders get one free ticket to both games with a valid badge/ID.
