Cellist Plays on Porch During Stay-At-Home in Michigan – The Good News
Her neighbors cheer and record her performance on their phones from a safe social distance.
Irina Tikhonova has performed in the past for the Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Warren Sympathy Orchestra and Michigan Opera Theatre. And now, she's performing on her porch at her home in Royal Oak.
Every day, she brings her cello outside (weather permitting, Monday thru Friday) and puts on a 30-minute performance for her neighbors and passers-by. Once word got out on social media, she had more than two dozen spectators.
She says that she'll continue performing as long as the crowd doesn't get too big and people stay 6 feet away from each other.
Irina told the Detroit Free Press that “it’s a difficult time, but there is a silver lining to it,” she said. “People feel more connected and supportive and concerned for each other.”
