Now you have a chance to own a tiny piece of roller coaster history as Cedar Point is selling off pieces of track from one of its classic roller coasters.

And here's the catch:  the park is selling pieces of track from a roller coaster that is still up and running.

Is Cedar Point Dismantling Another Ride?

The short answer is no, Cedar Point is not tearing down a coaster just to sell off pieces of track.

The Ohio amusement park is actually selling pieces of track from the Maverick - which is still up and running, and expected to be going strong again next season.

The portion of the Maverick track that's up for sale is from the ride's heartline roll element - something that was removed from the ride (after the second launch) before the coaster officially opened to the public in 2007, according to WKYC-TV.

Here's a bit more from Cedar Point's official site:

"That piece was replaced with an s-curve element to reduce stress on the trains, but the heartline roll track remained intact and was relocated into storage."

How Much is Cedar Point Asking for a Piece of Maverick?

Buckle up (and keep your hands inside the train), because a piece of Maverick history will set you back more than few bucks.

Each piece is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and signed by the park's Vice President and General Manager, Carrie Boldman. These pieces are being sold for $299 each.

If that doesn't scare you off, consider a piece that's also signed by Sandor Kernacs. Kernacs is a representative from the ride's manufacturer and the only person to ride Maverick with that piece of track in place. Those pieces are being sold for $349 each.

The sale begins this Saturday, October 12, starting at 1 pm, in person at Cedar Point. Details are here.
