Artists Can Enjoy Living Free This Summer on Mackinac Island
Are you an artist or know one? You'll want to hear this. Mackinac Island is once again offering the experience of a lifetime this summer that's all about embracing the arts.
The Mackinac State Historic Parks Artist-In-Residence Program is being offered for a fifth year this summer giving artists the amazing opportunity to live on the island rent-free. The specialty program will allow 8 selected artists the chance to spend two weeks living on the island and drawing inspiration from all the beauty it has to offer.
The program is looking for all types of artists of different styles such as writers, composers, sculptures, and those visual artists such as photographers. Each will work on their own individual projects as well as hold a special showcase workshop for the public to attend.
Those chosen for the program will enjoy free housing at the Mackinac Island Visitor’s Center, formerly the 1915 Mackinac Island Coast Guard Station. The quaint studio apartment overlooks the Straits of Mackinac.
The first of the two-week sessions is set to start on June 6th, and applications are currently being accepted. If you are looking to apply for a truly once-in-a-lifetime artistic experience you need to act fast. All artists must submit applications and samples as part of their applications by Friday, January 13th. Those selected for the program will be notified by February 10th
