
Are Michiganders Eating Lab-Grown Meat Without Knowing It?
When we go shopping for perishables like meats, fruits and vegetables, we put our trust in the grocery stores and supermarkets that we patronize. We do get recall notices and health alerts when products fall below quality standards and grocers immediately remove recalled items from store shelves.
But when it comes to how some products are actually made, you might be surprised when you find out what you're ingesting.
Are You Already Eating Lab-Grown Meats?
Luckily, if you've been in Michigan all your life you have not consumed lab-grown meats. The only lab-grown meat currently available to consumers is at two California startups that was approved by U.S. officials two years ago.

Now that lab-grown chicken is available, scientists continually consider how to best create various meats synthetically. To get ahead of these products before making it to shelves in your grocery store, the Michigan House of Representatives has passed House Bill 4076 with overwhelming support.
What Is Michigan House Bill 4076?
The whole point of House Bill 4076 is to make sure Michiganders are aware of whether they are buying real meat and poultry or something grown in a Petrie dish. The Michigan House Bill was proposed by Representative Jerry Neyer, who says that the public needs to know what they are buying.
