According to WJBK-TV, the suspect—who has not yet been publicly identified—was known to employees at the facility.

End Update.

Authorities in Lapeer County are investigating a shooting at a manufacturing plant that ended with a sheriff’s deputy opening fire on a suspect Wednesday morning, according to Michigan State Police.

Almont Shooting Overview:

Early reports indicate that the active shooter incident began at approximately 8:20 a.m., when a suspect entered the Trims Unlimited manufacturing facility in Almont. The suspect then fired one shot, injuring an employee at the facility. That employee was rushed to a local hospital and later died.

Fox 2 Detroit reports that the suspect then headed south on Van Dyke Rd. and turned west onto Dryden Rd. He traveled about 10 miles toward Metamora, where he was surrounded by police and shot multiple times.

Both victims have been transported to local hospitals. While the first victim, shot inside the Trims Unlimited facility, is said to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the condition of the suspect is unknown at this time.

Police have not said whether there was a connection between the first victim and the shooter.
