The ABC Chief Meteorologist has been on an electric vehicle road trip with a couple of crew members in tow. The trio made their way from New York City to Detroit to visit Ford's production facility which is ramping up its production of electric vehicles. After today's (4/19) broadcast, they're heading to Chattanooga, Tennessee, Valdosta, Georgia, and then on to Miami, Florida.
What Did Ginger Zee Say About Michigan Roads?
Zee is a Michigan native, so she can get away taking a jab at Michigan for its infrastructure, especially since all of us do the same.
As Ginger and her crew arrived in the Mitten State she tweeted the video below, complete with a disclaimer about her being from our great state.
"I'm a Michigander so I can say this," she started out. "EVs are really quiet unless you're on a Michigan road."
She tagged the post with #potholes, #roadmess, and #whatishappening.
Ouch. But she's not wrong.
Why is Ginger Zee Road-Tripping in an Electric Vehicle?
Zee notes in the video below that she and her family bought an electric vehicle a little more than a year ago and she's hoping to answer a lot of questions about EV ownership and the challenges that come with charging and road trips.
She notes that at this stage, taking a trip in an electric vehicle takes a bit of planning in order to replenish the vehicle's charge. It also takes more time because it does take time to charge an EV. But she estimated that this trip would cost only about $120 for electricity, while a traditional gas vehicle would have required about $550 worth of gasoline.
