And the donations keep on coming.
Michigan State Police are conducting an investigation into a puppy mill in the upper peninsula where 65 dogs and 69 puppies were rescued this week. Troopers were out looking for a missing horse when they came across the mill.
Many of the dogs arrived sick and/or pregnant. Some of them gave birth at the Delta Animal Shelter in the last couple of days.
According to the shelter and UpNorthLive, the following breeds have been brought in:
- Goldens
Standard poodle
Golden doodles
Australian shepherds
Aussie doodles
Mini Aussies
Yellow, black, white, chocolate labs
German shepherds
Yorkies
Teddy bears
Few chihuahuas
Boston terriers
Volunteers and employees at the shelter in Escanaba are in the process of vaccinating, deworming, and flea-treating all of the dogs. They all arrived covered in flies with open wounds from fly bites.
After their wounds are taken care of, according to the shelter's Facebook page, they will start "bathing and grooming. These dogs are scared- they’ve never been inside- never on a leash. We will continue to post updates and how you can help. Right now the thing we need the most is monetary donations for their medical care."
So far, after just a couple of days of donations, over $87,000 has been raised and the number keeps climbing. Of course, it costs a LOT to care for 130+ dogs and puppies that are very sick; if you'd like to donate, click HERE.
