This week marks the 75th anniversary of the Sit-Down Strike in Flint. In late December of 1936, workers at Fisher Body #1 became part of what has been called the most significant strike in American labor history. These workers were fighting for recognition of their union, the United Auto Workers, and to keep their jobs from going to non-union workers. The strike lasted 44 days and the workers won the right to be represented by the UAW.
December 16, 2011 Saturday, December 17th the Sloan Museum and Buick Automotive Gallery will offer free admission from 12-5 pm. This great Saturday freebie is a result of a generous gift from GM Flint Manufacturing Operations and UAW Local 598. Visitors to the Sloan will have access to all the displays, including "Robots: The Interactive Exhibition." Also Carman Ainsworth's Robotics team will provide some added entertainment.
December 5, 2011 The Flint Cultural Center's 2011 Holiday Walk is Tuesday, December 6th from 5:15 to 8:30 pm all across the FCC's 30-acre campus. The event is FREE to all with something to delight every member of the family. The ceremonial lighting of the tree in between The Whiting and Sloan Museum will kick off the event at 5:15 pm.

August 26, 2011 Coming to the Sloan Museum on September 24th: "Robots: The Interactive Exhibition". The exhibition depicts a world populated entirely by mechanical beings, seeking to make the world a better place through innovation and determination.

July 1, 2011 If you have plans to visit the Flint Cultural Center this summer, getting there will be a bit of a challenge for a month or two. Work is to begin on July 5th to replace pavement on Kearsley Street between Crapo and Walnut. New lights will be installed as well as new informational banners.
