As the City of Flint gets ready to make the switch to Flint River water for drinking water, the timing couldn't be more perfect for this year's annual river cleanup.

The Flint River Watershed Coalition and Friends of the Flint River Trail will hold their annual cleanup this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The idea is to clean up trash that accumulated over the winter. Last year, over 300 volunteers in Genesee and Lapeer Counties removed 570 bags of trash.

Volunteers are welcome 'to just show up.' Lunch will be provided for all volunteers afterwards and the annual "Golden Gloves" award will be given to the group that pulls out the most interesting item out of the river.

Friends of the Flint River Trail volunteers should report to Vietnam Veterans' Park on James P. Cole Boulevard between Hamilton and Robert T. Longway. For other site locations, click here.
