Detroit radio icon Alan Almond has died. Almond was the host of 'Pillow Talk,' a nighttime love songs program which featured soft music and dedications. Almond's program originated in Detroit, and was syndicated nationally for years, airing briefly in Flint in 1999.

As members of the greater broadcasting community, we send our heartfelt condolences to his family, and former colleagues who are mourning his loss.

In the interest of full disclosure, we stole the idea. Almond's 'Pillow Talk' show was the inspiration for Cars 108's hugely successful 'Love Songs' program which began airing on WCRZ in September of 1991.

Dick Kernen of the Specs Howard School of Media Arts tells CBS Detroit that Almond was a pioneer in radio.

“Alan pioneered and became this amazing personality no one ever knew what he looked like … and every night he would go on the air and do a show that no one had ever heard of before or experienced before – he was definitely a pioneer.”

Rest in peace, Mr. Almond. Thank you for your contributions to our industry.
