The Tiger hitters continued to be underachievers, scoring only two runs in today's game with Pittsburgh.  Rick Porcello made that work for a win as he pitched 8 innings of 1-hit shutout ball.  Since this was an interleague game, pitchers get to hit in the National League parks and Porcello got his third career Major League hit as he beat out an infield single.

Max Scherzer wasn't exactly horrible, but he did suffer his first loss of the season as Pittsburgh beat Detroit 6-2.  The main problem is that the Tiger bats remained silent for eight of the nine innings in last night's loss, which is the team's 5th in a row.

Brad Penny kept his team in the game for a few innings, but his control wasn't good tonight and he walked six batters, many of whom scored.  It didn't really matter, as the Tigers could only cross the plate one time in a 10-1 thrashing by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Justin Verlander pitched well enough to win.  As usual, his team didn't give him much in the way of help.  Verlander pitched eight innings, striking out nine batters and giving up three runs.  The Tigers tied the game up in the eighth inning on back-to-back homers from Brennan Boesch and Miguel Cabrera, but couldn't deliver in the clutch when they had a great opportunity.

The Tigers have had their troubles winning in Minnesota in recent history.  They jumped on Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano early for 4 runs, then never let up for a 10-2 victory.  Rick Porcello pitched 5 innings for his 3rd win which was interrupted by a 64 minute rain delay.
